A stretchy plastic film that you wrap round a pallet or a bundle of goods to hold it together for storage, handling and transport. You pull it tight as it goes on, and it clings to itself and pulls back against the load, so loose cartons become one solid unit.

Yes. Stretch wrap and pallet wrap are the same film. People often call it shrink wrap too.

LLDPE, which is short for linear low-density polyethylene. It’s a plastic that stretches a long way without tearing and then pulls back against the load, which is what holds a pallet together. They’re related, but not the same. Both cling to themselves without tape. Pallet wrap is thicker, at 17 to 23 micron against about 10 micron for kitchen film, comes on 400mm x 250m rolls, and is made to hold loads together rather than cover food. Three things you can check for yourself. We publish the length, thickness and real weight of every roll, so you can weigh what arrives. Our 23 micron roll weighs 2.43kg, while a typical market roll sold at the same stated spec weighs closer to 1.2kg. Every roll contains at least 30% post-consumer recycled plastic as standard. And the film stretches up to 500%, so there’s plenty of stretch in hand on awkward loads.

Yes. We check our rolls against the length and weight we advertise, and we publish the weight so you can check it too. A 23 micron roll weighs about 2.43kg and a 17 micron roll about 1.87kg, including the core. Our guide on checking a roll’s real length and thickness shows how.

17 micron suits even, square loads up to about 500kg that stay indoors. 23 micron is the safer choice for heavier or taller pallets, mixed loads, sharp edges, long journeys and outdoor storage. If you’re not sure, go for 23 micron. The small extra cost per box is far less than the cost of a load failing in transit.

Often, yes, on light and even loads. Our 17 micron film does the job of a standard 20 to 23 micron film on that kind of pallet, so you use less plastic. For heavy or sharp-edged loads, stay with 23 micron.

Standard core rolls have a 50mm core that sits on a hand dispenser, which gives the most even tension. Extended core rolls have a longer 38mm core that sticks out past the film at each end, so you hold the ends and wrap without a dispenser. That suits removals, mobile jobs and occasional wrapping. The film is the same either way.

No. Standard core rolls work best on a dispenser, but extended core rolls are made to be used by hand without one. Our guide on whether you need a dispenser explains when one is worth buying.

Clear lets you see labels, barcodes and the goods, which helps with stock checks and picking. Black hides what’s on the pallet and gives a tidier finish. Neither is stronger. It comes down to whether you want the load seen.

Film made by pouring melted plastic onto a chilled roller, which cools it almost instantly. Cast film unwinds quietly, clings well and stays clear, which is why most hand pallet wrap is made this way. It clings to itself without glue, so it leaves no sticky residue on your goods or labels.

Yes. Our standard core rolls can be used by hand, on a hand dispenser or on a pallet wrapping machine. Check that your machine takes a 400mm wide roll on a 50mm core. Extended core rolls are made for wrapping by hand only.

Start at the bottom by threading the end of the film through a corner of the pallet, or twisting it into a rope and tying it to a corner block. Wrap the base two or three times, catching the pallet as well as the boxes, so the load is tied to the pallet. Spiral up with each turn overlapping the last by about half the film’s width, put two or three turns round the top, then spiral back down and tuck the end firmly into a lower layer. Every roll is 400mm wide and 250m long, and they come six to a box. How many pallets a roll wraps depends on the pallet size, load height, overlap and number of turns, so we don’t quote a fixed figure. We publish the real length and weight of every roll instead, so you can work it out and compare rolls fairly. Our wrap calculator gives you an estimate for your own pallets.

Match the thickness to the load, stretch the film properly as it goes on, and wrap to a set pattern rather than by guesswork. Also check you’re getting full rolls, because a roll that’s lighter than it should be has less film on it. Our guide on cutting pallet wrap costs goes into more detail.

It keeps dust and dirt off and gives some protection from light rain and damp during storage and transport. It isn’t fully waterproof, so if your goods must stay completely dry, get in touch and we’ll advise.

Yes. It keeps dust and scuffs off sofas, mattresses and chairs, and holds drawers and doors shut. It isn’t padding, so add blankets or foam to anything that needs cushioning first. Keep rolls upright in their boxes, somewhere dry, out of direct sunlight and away from heat. Very cold film is stiffer and tears more easily, so let it warm up before use. Use older stock first. Our storage guide has more tips.

Yes. It’s polyethylene film, which is widely recycled through commercial waste services when it’s clean and kept separate from other waste. It shouldn’t go in household recycling bins. Our film also contains at least 30% post-consumer recycled plastic. Our recycling guide explains where it can go.

Yes. Every roll we sell contains at least 30% post-consumer recycled plastic, which is the line HMRC sets for Plastic Packaging Tax. That applies across the whole range, not just one option.
