Stretch Wrap Film | Pallet Wrap Rolls

Stretch wrap film, also called pallet wrap or stretch film, is the film you wrap around a pallet or a bundle of goods to hold everything together for storage, handling and transport. Applied under tension it clings to itself and pulls back against the load, binding loose cartons into one stable unit so nothing shifts, leans or topples on the way out.

Hilux Poly supplies hand pallet wrap to warehouses, removals firms, despatch teams and online sellers across the UK. The range covers clear and black, 17 and 23 micron, standard and extended core. Every roll is 400mm x 250m, supplied by the 6-roll carton, held in UK stock and dispatched the same working day before 2pm.

We publish the length and weight of every roll. That sounds like a small thing, but it is the only way to tell whether one roll is better value than another, and most sellers do not do it.

Choose the right stretch wrap film for your industry and application.

How to choose the right roll

Choosing pallet wrap comes down to your load and how you wrap it. Four things decide it.

Thickness – 17µ or 23µ.

Micron is the film’s thickness, and it’s the simplest guide to strength. 17µ is the economical choice for lighter, stable loads and everyday boxes. 23µ gives you more to work with on heavier or taller pallets and loads with edges that can nick thinner film. Between the two? The 23µ is the safer default, the small extra cost per carton is cheaper than a load that fails in transit.

Core – standard or extended.

Standard core is the usual cardboard core, best used with a hand dispenser, which gives you the most consistent tension. Extended core has handles moulded into a longer core, so you can wrap by hand with no dispenser, the practical choice for removals, mobile jobs and quick top-ups.

Colour – clear or black.

Clear keeps labels, barcodes and contents visible, which matters for stock checks and picking. Black helps conceal what’s on the pallet and gives a tidier, more uniform finish. Neither is stronger; it’s a visibility choice.

Film type – cast.

Our rolls are cast film, which unwinds quietly and clings well, the format most hand-wrappers prefer day to day.

Getting the most from your film

How you wrap makes more difference than which gauge you buy. These are the points that actually change whether a load arrives intact.

Anchor the base first. Two or three turns around the bottom of the load and the pallet itself tie the goods to the pallet. Most loads that fail in transit fail because the base was never anchored, not because the film was too thin.

Overlap by about half the film width. Roughly 50% overlap as you work up the load gives even coverage without wasting film. Gaps are where loads start to shift.

Apply real tension. Stretch film works by pulling back against the load. Film applied loosely is a dust cover, not containment, whatever the thickness. This is the single biggest reason a dispenser pays for itself on standard-core rolls.

Use your body, not your wrists. Tension should come from leaning back and walking the load at a steady pace. It is more even and far less tiring.

Finish the top on heavier loads. Extra turns at the top of a tall or top-heavy pallet stop the upper cartons leaning out in transit.

Store rolls flat and out of direct sun. Cast film performs best used from stock rather than left on a hot loading bay or in a vehicle for weeks.

Compare rolls by weight, not by price. Two rolls at the same price are not the same purchase if one weighs less. Roll weight tells you how much film you are actually getting, which is why we publish ours on every product.

What stretch wrap film is used for

Pallet wrapping. Unitising cartons and goods into one stable load for racking, storage and transport.

Transit protection. Keeping loads together through handling, loading and the journey, and keeping dust and light moisture off the goods.

Bundling. Holding awkward items, loose parts, long lengths and multiple packages together as one unit.

Removals and storage. Wrapping furniture, mattresses, drawers and doors, and keeping goods clean in vans, containers and storage units.

Despatch and fulfilment. Consolidating multi-parcel orders and securing outbound pallets on a busy bench.

By application: warehousing and logistics, shipping and despatch, ecommerce and fulfilment.

Ordering and delivery

Stretch wrap film is supplied by the 6-roll carton, held in UK stock in Derby and dispatched the same working day on orders placed before 2pm, Monday to Friday. Delivery is free to Mainland GB.

If you get through film by the pallet rather than the carton, we price it accordingly. Tell us which rolls you use, roughly how many cartons a month and your delivery postcode, and we will come back with pallet-quantity pricing. Ask for trade and pallet pricing

Not sure which roll fits your loads? Send us the load type, roughly what it weighs and how you wrap, and we will tell you which one to order before you spend anything.

FAQ

What is stretch wrap film?

A stretchy plastic film wrapped around pallets or bundled goods to hold them together for storage and transport. Applied under tension it clings to itself and pulls back against the load, keeping it stable.

Is stretch wrap the same as pallet wrap and stretch film?

Yes, they are the same product under different names. Shrink wrap is a different thing: it needs heat to shrink around the goods.

Which thickness do I need, 17 or 23 micron?

17 micron for lighter, stable, uniform loads and everyday boxes. 23 micron for heavier or taller pallets, mixed loads, edgy goods and anything going out on transport. When in doubt, 23 micron.

What is the difference between standard and extended core?

Standard core is made for a hand dispenser and gives the best tension control. Extended core has handles moulded into the core so you can wrap without a dispenser. Same film, different way of applying it.

Should I choose clear or black?

Clear if contents and labels need to stay visible. Black if the load is better kept out of sight or you want a tidier finish. Colour does not affect strength.

Do you supply machine stretch film?

Our current range is hand film in standard and extended core. Machine wrapping needs machine film, which is a different product.

What size are your rolls?

Every roll is 400mm wide and 250m long, supplied 6 rolls per carton.

How many pallets will a roll wrap?

It depends on pallet size, load height, overlap and how many turns you apply, so we do not publish a fixed figure. What we do publish is the length and weight of every roll, so you can work out your own usage accurately and compare rolls fairly.

What is cast film?

Film made by extruding onto a chilled roller. It unwinds quietly, clings well and is clear, which makes it the usual choice for hand wrapping.

Is the film recycled?

Yes, all rolls contain 30% or more recycled content.

How quickly do you dispatch?

Same working day on orders placed before 2pm, Monday to Friday, from UK stock in Derby. Free delivery to Mainland GB.

Do you offer trade or bulk pricing?

Yes, on pallet quantities. Send your usage and delivery postcode and we will quote. Trade and wholesale

Not sure which film to choose?

Tell us what you’re wrapping, how much, and your postcode. We’ll point you to the right roll and sort trade pricing if you need volume.
