Clear Stretch Film

Clear stretch film is the everyday choice when you need to see what you have wrapped. Because the film is transparent, labels, barcodes and contents stay readable through the wrap, so goods can be checked, picked and scanned without cutting a pallet open. That makes it the default across warehousing, courier despatch, retail distribution and any operation where stock has to be identified on sight.

Hilux Poly supplies clear hand pallet wrap in 17 micron and 23 micron, in standard or extended core. Every roll is 400mm x 250m, supplied by the 6-roll carton, held in UK stock and dispatched the same working day before 2pm. We publish the length and weight of every roll, so you can compare what you are actually buying rather than guessing from the price.

How to choose the right roll?

Choosing pallet wrap comes down to your load and how you wrap it. Here’s how to decide it.

Three decisions, and none of them take long.

Thickness: 17 micron or 23 micron

Micron is the thickness of the film, and it is the simplest guide to how much a roll will hold.

17 micron is the economical option and the right choice for lighter, stable, uniform loads: everyday boxes, regular cartons, stock that sits squarely on the pallet. Wrapped with enough turns it holds a standard load perfectly well, and at roughly 50p per roll less it is the cheaper wrap on high-volume, low-risk work.

23 micron gives you more to work with. Choose it for heavier pallets, taller stacks that want to lean, mixed loads that are not neatly stacked, and anything with corners or edges that can nick thinner film. If you are genuinely undecided, take the 23 micron. The extra cost per carton is small against the cost of one load that arrives unstable.

A note on value that is worth knowing: the 23 micron roll carries more film for the money by weight, while the 17 micron roll costs less per pallet wrapped. So the thicker roll is better value per kilo of material, and the thinner roll is cheaper per wrap. Which matters more depends entirely on whether your loads need the extra hold.

Core: standard or extended

Standard core is the usual cardboard core, designed to sit on a hand dispenser. A dispenser lets you keep steady, even tension as you walk the pallet, which gives the tightest and most consistent finish and reduces strain over long wrapping sessions. If you wrap regularly, in one place, this is the format to use.

Extended core has handles moulded into a longer core, so you pick the roll up and wrap with no dispenser and no setup. It suits removals, mobile and multi-site wrapping, awkward or irregular items, and quick top-ups where fetching a dispenser is not worth the walk.

Both are hand films. The choice is about how you apply the film, not how strong it is. Full detail on the extended core range.

Colour: clear or black

Clear keeps everything visible, which is what most warehouse and despatch operations want. If you would rather the contents were not on display, or you want mixed loads to look tidier and more uniform, see black stretch film. Colour makes no difference to strength. It is purely a visibility decision.

Where clear film is used?

Warehousing and storage. Securing pallets for racking and floor storage, where stock is checked visually and labels need to stay readable.

Courier and e-commerce despatch. Wrapping outbound pallets and consolidating multi-parcel orders, with barcodes scannable through the film.

Retail distribution and stockrooms. Fast, repeated wrapping of mixed cartons where staff need to identify contents on sight.

Manufacturing despatch. Unitising finished goods for transport without hiding batch or product labelling.

Bundling and general use. Holding awkward items, loose parts, drawers and doors together, in the warehouse or on a removal job.

By application: warehousing and logistics, shipping and despatch, ecommerce and fulfilment.

Ordering and delivery

FAQ

Is clear stretch film weaker than black?

No. Colour does not affect strength. Clear and black at the same micron hold the same. The choice is visibility: clear keeps contents readable, black helps conceal them.

Which clear thickness should I choose?

17 micron for lighter, stable, uniform loads and everyday boxes. 23 micron for heavier or taller pallets, mixed loads and anything with edges that can nick thinner film. When in doubt, 23 micron is the safer pick.

Do I need a dispenser?

For standard-core rolls a hand dispenser is recommended: it gives better tension control, a tighter wrap and less fatigue. If you would rather not use one, the extended-core roll has built-in handles and needs no equipment.

Is the clear film recycled?

Yes, all rolls contain 30% or more recycled content.

How many pallets will one roll wrap?

It depends on pallet size, load height, how much overlap you use and how many turns you apply, so we do not publish a fixed figure. What we do publish is the length and weight of every roll, so you can work out your own usage accurately and compare rolls fairly.

Do you offer trade or bulk pricing?

Yes, on pallet quantities. Send your usage and postcode and we will quote. Trade and wholesale

Not sure which film to choose?

Tell us what you’re wrapping, how much, and your postcode. We’ll point you to the right roll and sort trade pricing if you need volume.
