In a warehouse you are wrapping all day, so the film has a different job to do than it does on a one-off pack. It has to behave the same on every pallet, across every shift and every member of the team, and it can never be the reason despatch stops. A hero spec on the box matters far less than a roll that is consistent, in stock, and easy to reorder before you run out.

What actually matters in a warehouse

Not running short. The costliest wrap problem in a busy warehouse is not roll price, it is an empty despatch bay at 3pm. Buying by the pallet and reordering from UK stock with same-day dispatch keeps a buffer behind the line so wrapping never becomes the bottleneck.

A consistent wrap across the team. When rolls are made to the same length and weight and applied on a dispenser, every operator gets a similar result. That means predictable film usage you can actually budget, and loads that all hold the same way regardless of who wrapped them.

Visibility for picking and stock checks. Clear film keeps labels and barcodes readable through the wrap, so pallets can be identified, picked and scanned in the racking without cutting anything open. For most warehouse work, clear is the default for this reason.

Load stability in storage and in transit. A well-wrapped pallet has to survive being lifted, racked, moved and then transported. Anchoring the base to the pallet and finishing the top on taller loads matters more here than gauge, because warehouse pallets get handled repeatedly before they ever leave.

Recommended rolls for warehouse use

The everyday workhorse: 23μ Clear (Standard Core). Heavier-gauge hold for regular and mixed pallets, used on a hand dispenser for steady tension and a consistent finish. Clear keeps everything scannable. This is the roll most warehouses run as standard.

The economical option: 17μ Clear (Standard Core). For lighter, stable, uniform loads that do not need the extra hold, this brings the cost per pallet down on high-volume, low-risk work.

For odd jobs around the floor: 23μ Clear (Extended Core). A couple of extended-core rolls kept off the bench cover mobile wrapping, awkward items and quick jobs in the racking without carrying a dispenser around.

For outbound loads you would rather not advertise: 23μ Black (Standard Core). Opaque wrap for goods leaving on shared transport, or where a tidy, uniform pallet matters on arrival.

Cutting film cost at volume

At warehouse volumes, how you wrap moves the budget more than which roll you buy. Three things save real money across a year:

Apply proper tension. Loosely applied film uses more of itself for less hold. A dispenser set to a sensible tension gets more containment from every metre, which means fewer turns per pallet and fewer cartons over a month.

Standardise the wrap. Agree a base-anchor and a turn count for your common load types so every operator wraps to the same spec. It stops the heavy-handed over-wrapping that quietly doubles film use on some benches.

Buy on weight, not headline price. Because we publish roll weight, you can compare true cost per kilo of film and per pallet wrapped, rather than being caught by a cheaper carton that simply has less film on it. Over pallet quantities, that difference is not small.
